Mobility plan for Primary school Milana Šušteršiča

The Milana Šuštaršiča Primary School in Bežigrad faced a major expansion, which included the demolition of old auxiliary buildings and the construction of a modern, larger extension. To ensure that the school remained safe and accessible despite its increased capacity, we prepared a mobility plan at the same time as the project documentation for obtaining a building permit.

As part of the study, we analyzed the wider area surrounding the school in detail and assessed the possibilities for access by various means of transport. The emphasis was on promoting sustainable mobility, so we examined the conditions for arriving on foot, by bicycle, and by public transport. Our key objective was to ensure that the renovated school with a new gym and dining hall would function smoothly within the city's transport system, while offering students the highest level of safety on their daily journeys.

We paid particular attention to optimizing stationary traffic and analyzing the availability of parking spaces during the busiest times of the day.

The goal of our team in preparing the mobility plan was to determine the accessibility of the facility in question and to increase sustainable forms of mobility to ensure access. In preparing the mobility plan, we focused on reviewing sustainable forms of mobility for accessing the location (footpaths, bicycles, public transport), which have a significantly lower impact on the environment. The plan therefore includes only the minimum number of parking spaces for cars that are essential for operations.

The result of the project is improved traffic management and safety:

Pedestrians: Areas exclusively for pedestrians and the bus platform will be safe and accessible from the direction of the BS3 settlement and POT-i.

Vehicles: A parking lot with separate entrances/exits will be reserved for employees and parents. It will include spaces for people with disabilities, electric vehicles, and deliveries.

Drop- off of children for parents of 1st triad pupils:

Inside the barrier: A special area for buses and parents of pupils from the 2nd grade onwards.

Outside the barrier: 12 parking spaces for parents of first graders for safe and quick escort of children.
