Conceptual solution for a connecting road between the Padna and Lucija junctions

Traffic on the roads in Slovenian Istria, especially during the summer months and holidays, exceeds the capacity of the current road network. Plans and designs are underway for a system of two parallel expressways, which should solve the current traffic congestion problems. The state plans to solve the congestion on the HC6 expressway between Koper and Izola by building an expressway to Lucija and connecting it to the Sečovlje border crossing and the HC5 hinterland expressway between Koper and Dragonja. The expressway between Koper and Lucija is intended primarily for local and destination traffic to Izola and Lucija-Portorož-Piran. The hinterland expressway would take over transit traffic between Koper and the Dragonja border crossing with a connection to the expressway network of Istria in Croatia.
