Noise barriers and upgrading of the railway line on the section between Dobova and Zidani Most, Brežice - Krško section

As part of the comprehensive modernization of the railway network in Slovenia, project documentation was prepared at the request of the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency for the upgrade of the main railway line on an important section between the state border and the Zidani Most station.

The current project (IZN) focuses on the Brežice–Krško section (including the Libna station). Special emphasis is placed on active noise protection, which complies with the latest standards for protecting the living environment.

Main objectives of the upgrade


The modernization of the line will ensure technical compliance with modern European corridors and improve the quality of passenger and freight transport:

Increased capacity and speed: Increase in train speeds within the limits of the existing corridor.

Load capacity D4: Establishment of parameters for axle load 225 kN/axle and longitudinal load 80 kN/m.

Interoperability: Harmonization with TSI categorization (traffic code P4 and F1) and establishment of GC clearance gauge.

Safety and flexibility: Increasing the level of safety and introducing two-way traffic on both tracks.

Scope of planned works


The project documentation provides for a comprehensive renovation of the infrastructure on the section:

Superstructure and substructure: Upgrade of the track, drainage, and structures (culverts, bridges, underpasses).

Libna station: Comprehensive upgrade of the station for a better user experience.

Technical equipment: Modernization of the traction network, signaling, safety, and telecommunications equipment.

Level crossings: Improvement and increase of safety at road and railway crossings.

Noise reduction measures: Implementation of planned noise protection measures along the route.
